PDF OCR 10 Community Edition is a simple drag-and-drib utility that converts your single-page PDFs and images into text documents or searchable PDF files. It uses avant-garde OCR (optical graphic symbol recognition) engineering science to excerpt the text of the PDF even if that text is independent in an image. This is particularly useful for dealing with PDFs that were created via a Scan-to-PDF function in a scanner or photo copier.

The Community Edition supports single-folio PDFs and Images. For multi-folio PDFs and batch conversion features, you can upgrade to the Enterprise Edition.

Includes back up for over lx languages including English language, German, Spanish, French, Chinese, Japanese, and many others.

Works well for a free app

On my mid-2011 iMac running Sierra, this Gratuitous OCR software did really well.

After transcribing about a hundred pages of a presentation deck, I found the post-obit issues (sorted by rarity - where rare was listed concluding)
1) Punctuation: periods and commas iinterchanged.
2) The letter i and j interchanged (someone else reported this I believe .. user mpe01) Also 'h' for 'n' and 'o' for 'c' accept been an outcome.
3) Formatting like bulleted lists would exist intermittently authentic
4) Chopped text: in the 100 pages I lost a string of 3 characters

For a complimentary OCR it transcribed these pages actually well. I simply transcribed utilise of the helvetica font. A serif font might yield better results.

One annotation for client: font size of original has a huge impact on the outcome! If you tin can, increase the font size for better results.

One developer note I would like to have seen is that the execute button [Convert] was 'on' by default. I would rather just drag-n-drop, have focus in the app, and hitting return rather than click the button.

I'thou very, very impressed with this app. Information technology recognizes all of my scanned text, and I haven't seen it make whatever mistakes when interpreting my scans. For the record, the material I'm scanning has all been in Times New Roman font, then I haven't yet attempted anything else. But for a free awarding, this is exactly what I was looking for and more.

Because the app is free, please know that you tin read just one PDF page at a time. This means the application will non read multi-paged documents unless y'all upgrade to the paid version. The developers do mention that upfront. For my purposes, though, this costless app has worked just fine. The menus are simple and very like shooting fish in a barrel to understand, and once more, the OCR itself has been virtually flawless.

I was searching for a decent app, and for me, this ane is it. I'll probable upgrade to the paid version if I e'er demand to scan multi-paged PDFs speedily, equally opposed to trying something from a different developer. I'm very impressed and happy I found this.

Very pleased. I compared to another tool OCR I have, and "PDF OCR 10 ce" did WAY better on the screen shot text sample than my other utility.
